Day 129 – May 8, 2012

The lake was beautiful and sparkling at sunset.

Day 104 – April 13, 2012

Today is the 13th, so time for the monthly baby cactus picture.  For the past 4 months I’ve been taking a picture of this saguaro that we’ve grown from a seed.  You can see its other monthly shots here:

January 13 –

A few changes this time around.  There’s obviously more needles, and the existing ones are getting taller.  The cactus that started growing next to it died.  And you can see how the cacti that share a pot with it are also starting to get bigger.  Their needles are slowly creeping into the monthly photographs.

Day 90 – March 30, 2012

This morning I realized that the two saguaros next to our campsite each had different color needles.  One had white needles, and the other had black needles.  I wonder why…

Day 89 – March 29, 2012

I had a a lot of fun camping and shooting last night.  Some clouds rolled in and covered up a lot of the stars.  But the moon and a few bright stars still shined through the clouds to be in my photographs.  This was my favorite picture from the night.

Day 73 – March 13, 2012

It’s the 13th of the month which means it’s time for my monthly baby cactus picture.

Day 13 & Day 44 are the previous months’ baby cactus pictures. Check them out here:

and here:

This month, on Day 73, you can, once again, notice the effects of time, even on this incredibly slow growing cactus. You can see how it has gotten a little bit bigger and the needles are a lot taller.  And the smaller cactus next to it is now touching the bigger cactus. We’ll see what happens next month…

Day 49 – February 18, 2012

Today my husband, best friend, and I went on a hike in the mountains nearby. We came across a huge saguaro that had been struck by lightning. It was completely charred black on one side and charred a little here and there on the other side. I had never seen so many colors on a saguaro before. I think the lightning did wonderful things to it. :)

Day 44 – February 13, 2012

I was thinking of how I could show time passing over this leap year of photographs. I decided to take a picture of the saguaro cactus my husband is growing on the 13th of every month. If you go back to January 13th’s post you can see the little cactus when it got its first needles:

Not only is it a bit bigger a month later, but another little cactus popped up next to it, and needles from the other cacti are peeking into my shot on the right side and bottom right corner. I think seeing this grow month by month will satisfy my want to show time passing.

[side note: just for some perspective this little cactus is smaller than a pencil eraser]

Day 13 – January 13, 2012

It was not my intention to have two pictures in a row of cacti, but we are growing a saguaro cactus in our kitchen and it’s about a week old. Today we noticed it got its first needles.
